4WD WiFi Controlled IG32 ATR

Description:

This is our ATR kit programmed and fully assembled. The robot is 4WD and is controlled from a PC using a WiFi connection. The robot has an IP camera mounted on a pan and tilt system so you can see where you are going. The pan goes more than 360 degrees and the tilt is -10 to +45 degrees.

The wifi controlled IG32 ATR includes the robot, program, gamepad controller, WiFi Bridge, Ethernet converter, control board, programming, etc. so you can drive the robot using your gamepad controller. The pan and tilt are part of the robot (not part of the camera) so the control of the camera pan and tilt is also performed with the gamepad controller. Of course you can just use your mouse to control the robot too if you don’t want to use the gamepad controls. If you set up your router with port forwarding, you can control and monitor your robot from anywhere that has internet access with your program.  A VB.NET 2010 application is provided.  See the video below for some screen shots.

The robot itself is an extremely rugged well built robot. The wheels are axle mounted and are supported using sealed ball bearings. The motors allow this robot to climb walls. This is a rugged frame made of 1/8″ thick aluminum and includes our IG32P gear motors. The aluminum is all laser cut for an exact fit-up and then hand welded and polished.

The base is 12.25″ wide x 17.25″ long.  Note, these dimensions do not include weld filler, which adds a little to the overall dimensions. As configured it has a ground clearance of about 2 5/16″. The width with the wheels is about 21″ and the length is about 21.5″.

  • Encoder Option: The motors can be upgraded to have encoders. The control board and software will be upgraded to read the encoder data so you can monitor how far the robot has traveled.
  • Sandblast and Paint the Robot Chassis: This upgrade will include sandblasting and painting the robot chassis. The chassis is wire brushed aluminum as a standard item, which will not rust. If you select this option we will sandblast the chassis and aluminum parts and paint them. This option will also include a vacuum formed plastic shroud to cover the Wireless Bridge.
  • LED lights: This option includes two LED lights mounted on the top of the camera. The lights will follow the camera with the pan and tilt. The lights will be wired to a control relay that is part of the the WiFi Custom Control Interface Package.
  • 2-Way Audio:  This option will include a camera upgrade to allow 2-way audio and speakers mounted on the robot.
  • Roll Cage: The Roll Cage upgrade will include a roll cage and top cover mounted to the robot. The roll cage will protect the camera in the event of a roll over.

The wifi controlled IG42 Enclosed ATR includes the robot, program, gamepad controller, WiFi Bridge, Ethernet converter, Pan Tils Zoom (PTZ) Camera, Video Server, control board, programming, etc. so you can drive the robot using your gamepad controller. The pan tilt and 3X optical zoom are controlled by the gamepad controller. Of course you can just use your mouse to control the robot too if you don’t want to use the gamepad controls. 4WD Linux Programmable Server Robot

This is a 4WD robot package programmed and fully assembled with on-board computer, camera, controllers, etc. The robot is 4WD and is controlled from a Dual Core Intel Atom Computer via WiFi, Solid State Hard Drive, Linux Server and ARC32 micro controller. The robot has a webcam mounted on a pan and tilt system so you can see where you are going. The pan goes about 90 degrees to either side and the tilt is -30 to +75 degrees.

The robot is designed such that you can add various Analog, Digital, or Servo Controls to it. The Intel Atom motherboard can be configured to serve the webcam or control to any device that exists on the network.  If you open up the ports on your network, you can control this robot anywhere from the World Wide Web!

A custom C++ program is included on the Robot to relay the commands received over a TCP Socket to the Robot’s Control Board for servo, motor control, or GPIO interfaces.

A sample C# program is included for the Control Interface.

The robot is based on a custom server robot built for a university.   The RoboClaw motor controller is used to drive the motors with their encoders using speed control.   NiMH batteries power the robot, computer, and sensors.   Two chargers are provided for charging the batteries.

As shown the robot weighs just shy of 15lbs and measures 15.5 inches long (edge of wheel to edge of wheel) by 14 inches wide and 12 inches high (to top of compass mast).  It has 1.5″ of ground clearance with its 4 7/8″ diameter tires.

HD2 Robot with WiFi Control and 27x PTZ Dome Camera

After building many custom WiFi HD2 robots, we have combined the most common requests and come up with this standard WiFi package.

This robot kit comes with everything you need including the charger.  All you need is a PC with windows XP or vista that is connected to a wireless network or a PC with a wireless network card and you can set it up peer to peer as an adhoc network.  When you receive the robot you will need to configure the wireless bridge, iPocket232, and video server to your network.  Instructions for doing this are provided with the robot.

  • Encoder Control Upgrade Package: With this upgrade will will replace two of the gear motors with encoder gear motors.  The encoders will be read by the control board and the distance the robot has traveled will be reported back to the WiFi control program.  With the encoders and gear reduction, the resolution is about 100 counts per inch.
  • Powder Coat the Robot Chassis: This option is just like it sounds.  We will prep the chassis and have it powder coated.  We typically powder coat it flat black, but any color can be specified. Powder coating applies the paint electrostatically and then it’s heat cured leaving a very durable uniform finish.
